About Amanita
Amanita is a Nature Play Group
Our Play Group is a second home for children aged 3.5 to 7 years. Inspired by nature and its cycles, we offer children a lively, creative and natural rhythm, providing them with security, enjoyment and healthy habits. Surrounded by pure forest and nature, we learn from it and draw our inspiration from it.
Where are we? La Palma !
La Palma is one of the seven main islands of the Canary Islands archipelago, located northwest of Africa. Known as “La Isla Bonita”, it is an ideal place for families seeking nature, tranquillity and a safe environment for their children. The island offers breathtaking landscapes with green forests, volcanic sand beaches and clear skies that are ideal for stargazing. Its mild climate throughout the year allows for outdoor activities such as hiking and nature play. It is the perfect place for young children to grow up in close contact with nature, surrounded by a healthy and stimulating environment.
Welcome the child with respect, educate them with love, and let them go with freedom.

A personal greeting from Amanita
“Hello! I’m Lena Plavšić. I am the founder of the Amanita project, here on the island of La Palma. Welcome.”
We offer a space where children can move freely, play with earth and water, feel the sun, rain and wind — the essential elements of being human — and fully experience the changing of the seasons.

We accompany the children through songs, poems, stories, finger games and small puppet plays that nurture the imagination. In this way, children are offered rich, living experiences while learning the language and developing and strengthening their speech and thinking.

Some impressions of Amanita

Our house
On our land we have a cosy little house that offers shelter to the children on days of bad weather. With its warm oven, it creates a comfortable and safe atmosphere, ideal for playing, painting and doing crafts. Here, the children can continue to explore their creativity and enjoy special moments, surrounded by the beauty of nature even when it is raining outside.

The property
Our kindergarten is located in the heart of the Cumbre Vieja Natural Park, surrounded by majestic pine and chestnut forests, alongside more than 100 fruit trees. In this unique environment, children explore nature every day — climbing trees, harvesting fruit and observing the local wildlife. The beauty and abundance of this place inspire a deep respect for nature and encourage free learning in harmony with the surroundings.

The garden
The vegetable garden is an essential part of Amanita, where children care for plants and observe the wonderful process of natural cycles. We are fortunate to be surrounded by apple trees, pear trees, walnut trees, chestnut trees, medicinal plants, bees and much, much more.

Forest walks
Exploring the trails of La Palma with our group of children is a magical experience. Surrounded by lush forests, volcanoes and breathtaking ocean views, the children discover nature in a playful and active way. These walks not only strengthen their bodies, but also stimulate their curiosity, creativity and connection to the natural environment.

Handcrafts
Every day we practise artistic activities and handcrafts using natural materials, with a sense of beauty and practical purpose. Drawing and modelling, watercolour painting, wool felting, loom weaving, sewing, bread making and caring for the garden.

The toilet
It is important to remember that a large part of the nourishment process at Amanita ends in a “dry toilet”. Together, we learn to return our contribution to nature by fertilising the fruit trees and thus preserving precious water.

How to contact us

Healthy nutrition
We take great care with food, because the quality of the food and its preparation are just as important as the atmosphere in which it is eaten. At mealtimes, we offer children a warm, calm and mindful environment, filled with gratitude to nature for the fruits it has given us.
The food we provide consists of organic cereals, seasonal fruit and vegetables. We use honey, nuts and plant-based milk for sweet dishes, and sea salt, olive oil and various spices for savoury meals. Each day of the week has its corresponding grain.
Each day, children bring a piece of fruit or some nuts to share with the others, creating a rich and varied snack and learning to share.
The children participate in preparing breakfast, help to set the table and tidy up after meals. In this way, they acquire good daily habits.

Excursions
Once a week we go on an excursion
Every Thursday we set off to discover the beauty and diversity of our Isla Bonita. We often visit the beach, the Caldera, nearby forests, museums, cultural activities or other educational places.
Roots & Shoots Group Certificate
Amanita has received a Raíces & Brotes certification for promoting respect for nature, environmental education and the conservation of local biodiversity. This recognition integrates us into an international network committed to sustainability and positive action.

Raíces & Brotes is the educational programme of the Jane Goodall Institute, present in more than 66 countries, encouraging young people and adults to develop local projects in support of the environment, animals and the community.
In Spain, the programme has been active since 2007, with numerous groups organising clean-up activities, recycling campaigns such as Mobilise for the Jungle, and workshops on sustainability and biodiversity.
